Summer Indies 101

The previously titled "Homework," which was picked up by Fox Searchlight after a smashing Sundance premiere, has been redubbed "The Art of Getting By." Neither title particularly rings my bell, but that's neither here nor there nor of any help to the cause of selling a book by its cover.  The movie pairs Emma Roberts (so recently delicious as she threw herself into all kinds of shit in "Scream 4") with Freddie Highmore (Charlie opposite Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka in the Tim Burton remake) as Manhattan art school kids who fall for each other. This trailer hits all the right notes, beginning with Peter, Bjorn & John's current great "Second Chance." Check it, yo!



"The Art of Getting By" opens in NY/LA on June 17. Expect it in Portland by America's B-day.
